By all definitions, this is most certainly a series reboot. From this simple three minutes and eleven seconds, our previous assumptions of what a Bond film would entail completely changes. The real and gritty fight gave us something new parting from the increasingly tiresome Pierce Brosnan films. While talking, they discuss James’ first kill, and we get flashbacks of a brutal fight in a bathroom. In the opening scene, filmed all in black and white, we see James surprising an MI6 section chief and then revealing that the chief is corrupt. The film takes a different and modern tone from the past ones. And no, I’m not talking about the ‘67 version starring David Niven. Now, they all do have their fair share of these, but I was very much surprised when I sat down about half a decade ago to actually try out Casino Royale. I thought all it comprised of was car chases, sex, and an incredible jaw line. Spoilers, of course.Īs a teenager, I never found much interest in James Bond. Here I look at my favourite 007 venture, Casino Royale, and ask whether it is and will always be the best of all the Bonds.
